On this day, six years ago, our son, Paul Hudson, was stillborn at a hospital in Louisville. That day began the most difficult period of our lives.
Looking back on this, his 6th birthday, I am so grateful for the way God sustained us and cared for us during those difficult months. I had long believed in the goodness of God. But the way God worked in those dark days to sustain our faith, strengthen our marriage, and comfort our souls, only strengthened my faith in our good God. I've written before about how our son Paul made us better parents. I also think he helped us know God better.
This morning in church we sang "Jesus, What a Friend of Sinners." The third verse is true. We've experienced it.
Jesus! what a Help in sorrow!
While the billows over me roll,
Even when my heart is breaking,
He, my Comfort, helps my soul.
