Tsunamis at Christmas
The latest estimate is that 76,000 have died in South Asia from huge waves. Reminds me of Jesus' words, "There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains." (Matt. 24:7-8) This of course was said in reference to the last days... which we've been living in ever since Jesus went back to the Father. But it is days like this, heavy days, full of death and despair that remind me that this world is temporary. This life is transitory. That we are living in things called last days. It also reminds me that this gospel is life giving and vital... Jesus also said "This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in my name to all nations, and then the end will come." What I see today on the news is faces of people in India and Indonesia and Thailand and Somalia who have never heard the gospel. The question for me this new year is, will I forget how unstable life is, and how long hell is, and how important the gospel is? Or will I rearange my life in order to levy all of my resources and energies so that when the next earthquake or disease hits (or simple old age), the people across teh world and across the street will enter into eternal life, rather than eternal death. 76,000 dead, in a moment... sobering. I pray I will be sober-minded and focused... That I will redeem the time. Please pray for the people still suffering and mourning from this disaster.
